Atagoyama Teahouse
愛宕山の休憩所
A rest pavilion planned for Atagoyama in Minato Ward.
To allow visitors to casually stop by after worship, the building is positioned so that it can be accessed smoothly from the main hall’s floor level. At the same time, the placement maintains a continuous relationship with the newly developed north plaza, set at a slightly lower elevation, ensuring that activities within the precincts remain gently connected and that the entire site can be strolled through comfortably.
The interior of the pavilion offers a calm view of the temple grounds, taking advantage of the site’s natural level differences to frame the rich protected trees within the precincts. The flow of people walking through the grounds, along with the views from various points—including the pavilion—form a continuous sequence, as the articulation of the exterior volume links multiple outdoor spaces.
To prevent each façade from appearing as an isolated element, balconies, terraces, entrances, and the pit-level spaces interact with adjacent elevations, creating an exterior expression that shifts continuously around the building.
港区にある愛宕山に休憩所を建てる計画。
参拝者がお参りをした後に気軽に立ち寄ることができるよう、本殿の床レベルからスムーズにアクセスできる配置とし、少し低いレベルに新しく整備される北側広場との関係が分断されないよう、敷地内の活動をゆるやかにつなぎ、境内全体をゆったりと散策できる休憩場所となるように配置した。
休憩所室内からの眺めは敷地の高低差を活かして、落ち着いて境内の豊かな保護樹木を楽しめる空間としている。境内を歩く人たちの流れ、休憩所を含めた境内の各所の眺めが連続していくよう、外形ボリュームの凹凸が複数の外部空間をつなげる。
各立面は独立した存在とならないように、バルコニー、テラス、出入り口、ピット階などの空間が隣り合う立面と関係をもちながら連続して変化する外観となっている。
