House in Ookayama

A combined-use house with an office on the first floor and a residence on the second.

In consideration of visitors to the office and views from the surrounding streets, no outward-facing windows were placed in the residential areas. Instead, the section is organized so that the interior is lit entirely by top lights. By adding a third-level volume above the two-story mass solely for bringing in daylight, soft, indirect light filters through the attic space and reaches multiple rooms from different directions.

The light court remains visible from various places—such as the living room, the entrance, and the hallway—yet it exists as a space that cannot be directly accessed.
